Dr Fabrizio Galeazzi

Associate Professor in Heritage and Creative Technologies & Deputy Director, StoryLab Research Institute
Anglia Ruskin University

Fabrizio is Associate Professor in Heritage and Creative Technologies and Deputy Director of the StoryLab Research Institute at Anglia Ruskin University. His research explores the combination of digital technologies, immersive media (VR, AR, MR) and multimodal storytelling to develop innovative solutions for heritage preservation and revitalisation, cultural participation, and sustainable development.

Fabrizio applies rapid prototyping, speculative design, and agile creative practice methodologies to his research to explore, reflect on, and evidence the connections between digitally reproduced tangible heritage and communities’ identities and values (i.e., intangible heritage). He leads the British Academy Reviving Kusunda project, exploring the use of immersive technologies for the revitalisation of endangered intangible heritage and languages.

Fabrizio’s research extends to evaluating the impact and transformative potential of the integrated use of 3D interactive visualisation, immersive narratives and participatory research in enhancing communities’ awareness, adaptation and resilience to climate change and conflicts, as well as promoting heritage innovation and sustainability. Examples of his work in this area include the Immersive Antarctica and the Heritage-led Resilience to Conflict, Scarcity and Climate Change initiatives.

Actively engaged in both academic and creative industries communities, Fabrizio is member of the Academic Working Group of the Innovate UK Immersive Technologies Network and the Climate Heritage Network. He also serves as academic advisor to several SMEs and international organisations, leveraging his expertise to foster knowledge exchange, collaborations, and capacity-building. Notably, he has spearheaded international knowledge transfer partnerships, such as the UNESCO Network for Mediterranean Youth programme, aimed at empowering partner youth organisations in the MENA region with new skills to advocate for the protection and promotion of cultural heritage.
